Firefighters rescue calf stuck in culvert

Firefighters rescued a six-month-old calf trapped in a culvert at a Lockersley farm near Romsey. Animal rescue teams from Winchester and Redbridge attended the incident on Saturday morning around 9am to free the stuck animal.

The Aberdeen Angus calf had become lodged approximately 15 metres inside the 60-metre-long pipe, which measured half a metre in diameter.

Rescue crews located the animal’s position before digging up the ground to reach the culvert. They then used specialist disc cutting equipment to gain access to the interior of the pipe.

A local veterinarian sedated the calf before firefighters deployed animal rescue equipment to carefully lift the young bovine from the culvert.

The rescue operation concluded at approximately 2pm when crews handed the calf back to the farmers and returned to their stations.
