This policy explains what personal information Portsmouth News collects, why, and what your rights are. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003.
Who we are
Portsmouth News publishes local news and information for the Portsmouth area at https://portsmouthnews.uk/. For anything in this policy: Contact us through the contact page, by email at editor@portsmouthnews.uk, or by voicemail or text message only on +44 7380 809424. Our postal address is Portsmouth News, 64 High Street, Cosham, Portsmouth PO6 3AJ, United Kingdom.
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address and message, used to reply to you. Kept for 12 months, then deleted.
- Death notice form: the details of the notice, your name, email address, phone number if given, and your confirmation that you have the family’s permission. Used to check and publish the notice and to contact you about it. The notice is published; your contact details are not.
- Removal tool: the name to be removed and your email address, used to send you a confirmation link and to keep a record that the removal was requested by you. Kept for 24 months so that a removal can be traced if it is later questioned.
The lawful basis for each of these is our legitimate interest in running the service and responding to you (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), or, where you ask us to publish something, the steps you have asked us to take.
Information we publish about other people
Court listings and police releases name individuals. We publish that information as it appears in the official source, in the public interest in open justice and public safety, and we remove it on request through the removal tool. We do not publish addresses beyond the town or street given in the source, and we do not publish anything that is subject to a reporting restriction that we are aware of. Requests to erase personal data under UK GDPR Article 17 are handled through the same tool, or through the contact page.
