Portsmouth News is a local news and information service for Portsmouth, Southsea, Gosport, Fareham, Havant and the wider PO postcode area. We publish the things people in the city look for every day: what is happening at the Crown Court, who has died and when the funeral is, how Pompey are doing, what the weather and the roads are like, and what the police are reporting.
Our sources
- Court listings are the daily lists for Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Isle of Wight Crown Courts, published by HM Courts and Tribunals Service and reproduced under the Open Government Licence v3.0, with the courts’ status boards on sitting days.
- Crime and court results are drawn from news releases issued by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and written up in our own words. A court result is published only when the police have confirmed it.
- Death notices are placed with us by families and funeral directors, alongside an index of names, dates and funeral details for the area.
- Portsmouth FC fixtures, results, tables and squad details come from football-data.org; club news is written up from the club’s own announcements.
- Weather forecasts come from Open-Meteo, flood alerts from the Environment Agency and tide times from the UK Hydrographic Office.
- Travel information comes from National Highways, National Rail, Portsmouth International Port, First Bus and Stagecoach.
Names on the site
Where a person is named, it is because they are named in a public court list or an official police release. Appearing on a court list is not an indication of guilt. Anyone who is named can have their entry removed using the removal tool, without needing to ask us first; the entry is replaced with a note that it was removed at the request of the individual.
Corrections
If something on the site is wrong, tell us through the contact page with the page address and what is incorrect. Errors of fact are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, normally within one working day. If a case is subject to a reporting restriction and we have published something that breaches it, mark your message “reporting restriction” and it will be dealt with the same day.
