Electric heater blaze Southampton: Bedroom destroyed

An electric heater sparked a devastating blaze that gutted a Southampton bedroom on Saturday evening, with firefighters praising the occupant’s quick thinking after closing the door prevented flames spreading throughout the property.

Emergency crews from St Mary’s and Hightown stations raced to the Northam Road residence following reports of the fire at approximately 7:30 PM on Saturday.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke and flames pouring from the ground-floor bedroom. The swift action of the homeowner, who shut the bedroom door whilst evacuating, proved crucial in containing the electric heater blaze Southampton firefighters tackled that evening.

One person required medical attention and received treatment from South Central Ambulance Service paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus before entering the burning property, using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. Following suppression of the fire, crews deployed ventilation fans to clear smoke from the building.

The bedroom sustained complete fire damage, whilst the remainder of the home remained unaffected thanks to the closed door limiting the blaze’s spread.
