Soulcal Body Mist Recalled Over Banned Chemical Risk

Soulcal & Co Body Mist products have been urgently recalled due to containing a banned chemical that poses serious health risks, including potential harm to reproductive systems and unborn children.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued an immediate recall notice for five varieties of the popular body mist after discovering they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial), a substance prohibited in cosmetic products.

Affected Products

The recalled products include the following fragrances:

  • Raspberry & Lotus Blossom
  • Mango & Passion Fruit
  • Apple & Waterlily
  • Coco Plum & Jacaranda
  • Beach Rose & Coconut Water

All affected products are manufactured in China and packaged in plastic bottles with lids. The items carry the PSD case number 2506-0106.

Health Risks

Officials have classified the recall as presenting “a serious chemical risk” due to the presence of BMHCA. The banned chemical may cause multiple health problems, including:

  • Harm to the reproductive system
  • Potential harm to unborn children
  • Skin sensitisation and allergic reactions

The synthetic fragrance compound poses particular concerns for pregnant women and those trying to conceive.

Where Products Were Sold

The body mists have been withdrawn from sale at Farmfoods stores across the UK. The Coco Plum & Jacaranda variety was also available at Superdrug, though the retailer has not yet issued an official recall notice.

Regulatory Compliance

The products fail to meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 and the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013. Portsmouth Trading Standards Service is amongst the Local Authority Trading Standards bodies that has notified about the safety concerns.

What Customers Should Do

Anyone who owns any of the affected Soulcal & Co Body Mist products should:

  • Stop using the product immediately
  • Return it to the seller where it was purchased
  • Request a full refund

The manufacturer has recalled all affected products from end users, and retailers have withdrawn remaining stock from sale
