Card payment machines may be removed from all Havant borough car parks, forcing drivers to use cash or the RingGo app instead, under proposals that would save the council £50,000 annually.
The potential elimination of card payments would impact all council-operated car parks across Havant, Waterlooville, Emsworth and Hayling Island, cutting transaction fees if the plans receive approval.
The proposals form part of Havant Borough Council’s comprehensive car park review, which also includes plans to introduce Sunday charging across all facilities to generate an additional £100,000 per year.
The council is also considering implementing charges at seven currently free car parks, which could bring in between £80,000 and £150,000 in extra revenue.

The car parks earmarked for new charges are:
- Bridge Road Car Park, Emsworth
- Langstone Bridge, Hayling Island
- Emsworth Recreation Ground, Emsworth
- Gunsite, Hayling Island
- Ladybridge Car Park, Purbrook
- Wheatlands Avenue, Hayling Island
- Padnell Avenue, Waterlooville
Havant Borough Council currently operates 60 car parks throughout the borough, with charges already applied to half of these facilities.
However, concerns have been raised regarding the RingGo app’s GPS system functionality.
