Ark Dickens Primary Academy in Portsmouth receives positive Ofsted report, with inspectors praising staff dedication and describing pupils as ‘polite, confident and articulate’ following April inspection.
Ofsted has commended Ark Dickens Primary Academy in Portsmouth for its commitment to nurturing student excellence after conducting an inspection on 1st and 2nd April.
Inspectors discovered that pupils demonstrate politeness, confidence and articulate communication skills, whilst adults within the school foster trust and create a secure learning environment.
The Ofsted assessment stated: “This school maintains high aspirations. Every member of staff demonstrates relentless effort to support pupils in achieving their utmost potential. The institution remains committed to ensuring each pupil acquires the knowledge and skills essential for their future progression.

“The school’s educational programme allows pupils to acquire crucial knowledge in a logical sequence over time.
“For the youngest learners in early years provision, there exists a distinct focus on establishing fundamental knowledge and skills. This provides them with essential foundations upon which to construct their future learning.”
Pupils ‘perform well’ from the outset and develop extensive vocabulary alongside understanding of language mechanics. This establishes strong foundations for subsequent years, resulting in pupils maintaining ‘extremely positive approaches to reading’.
The assessment also noted that pupils receive encouragement to read aloud, which assists in developing fluent reading abilities.

Teaching staff ensure that pupils with special educational needs receive careful consideration, with appropriate modifications implemented to enable all students to succeed.
The assessment also recognised that ‘the school’s provision for pupils’ personal development represents a considerable strength’, with students cultivating positive character qualities through lessons about kindness and respect.
Safeguarding procedures prove effective, establishing a robust culture focused on student safety.
The inspection noted: “In certain subjects, pupils do not routinely practice and consolidate previously acquired knowledge and skills. When this occurs, pupils fail to achieve their full potential.”
To enhance provision, the school should ensure all pupils receive opportunities to review their comprehension during lessons.
