A Southampton man has been jailed for 14 months after leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase while disqualified and uninsured, Newport Crown Court heard today.
Callum Bryan Hickman, 26, from Princes Court in Southampton, was behind the wheel of a red Citroën C3 without a valid licence or insurance cover when he committed the offences on 4 August 2024.
The incident began when plain-clothes police officers spotted Hickman driving along Fairlee Road towards Newport High Street at approximately 11:20am.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Hickman accelerated away at speeds reaching 90mph, sparking a pursuit through Whippingham Road and Beatrice Avenue before returning to Fairlee Road.
During the chase, Hickman drove on the wrong side of the carriageway and struck multiple vehicles before police called off the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

However, Hickman continued his reckless driving, travelling the wrong way along the dual carriageway Medina Way before taking the slip road towards River Way, where he crashed at the roundabout near Topps Tiles and escaped on foot.
CCTV and dashcam evidence captured the terrifying moments when Hickman narrowly avoided head-on collisions with oncoming traffic during his dangerous driving spree.
At Newport Crown Court today (4 July), Hickman received a 14-month prison sentence for dangerous driving.
