A 30-year-old Southsea man has been charged with the murder of Samantha Murphy, whose body was discovered at a Portsmouth property last Thursday morning.

Charlie James Jeans from Margate Road, Southsea, has been remanded in custody and appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 10. He is the first person to face charges in connection with the case, though four individuals have been arrested in total.

Ms Murphy’s body was discovered at a residence on Wadham Road, North End, at approximately 7:37am on Thursday, June 5. The 32-year-old mother of three was described by her family in a tribute as a “bright” and “compassionate” soul.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the charges against Jeans. A police spokesperson stated that a 41-year-old Portsmouth man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on conditional bail until September 9 while investigations continue.

Two additional men, both aged 32 from Petersfield and Havant respectively, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder, have also been released on conditional bail until September 5.
