Eileen Ruth Hobbs NEE Taylor Obituary

Eileen ‘Ruth’ Hobbs née Taylor, born 3rd November 1932, died 25th January 2026.

It is with the greatest sadness that the family announce the beloved wife of Edward (Ted) George Hobbs, cherished mother of Deborah, Jayne, Stuart, Stephanie and Kim, adored grandmother and great-grandmother and sister to Rob, Peter and Dave, passed away peacefully with family by her side at West Cliff Hall Residential Home.

Ruth and Ted had a marriage that lasted 67 wonderful years, which included having their five children, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ruth was always the first to be there with open arms to help anyone in need. Her door was always open and the kettle put on. This included helping with any children’s events and the Isle of Wight Special Olympics, now known as the Island Games.

Ruth loved to travel and explored abroad with Ted. Her favourite country abroad was Canada, but her utmost favourite was Scotland, where she could be at one with the golden eagles at Fort William or listen to the pipers in Edinburgh Castle.

Ruth will be sorely missed by all who knew her, especially Ruth’s loving husband Ted and family.

A funeral service will be held on 2nd March 2026 at 1pm at Portchester Crematorium. The family request no flowers, with donations to charity—information to be provided at the funeral. Attendees are asked to wear bright colours.
