Benny dog Portsmouth rescue from between walls

A Jack Russell terrier was rescued by Portsmouth firefighters after becoming trapped between two walls at Southsea Esplanade’s model village yesterday. The two-year-old dog, named Benny, suffered only minor injuries.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service received the call shortly before midday on Thursday. The dog had run into a hole in the wall and become stuck in the narrow space between two structures.

An urban search and rescue team was dispatched to the scene at the model village on Southsea Esplanade. Firefighters used specialist camera equipment to locate Benny’s precise position between the walls.

The rescue team worked carefully to cut through the brickwork to reach the trapped animal. Despite his ordeal, Benny sustained only minor scrapes and scratches during the incident.

The dog was successfully freed and reunited with his owner at the scene. Before leaving, Benny posed for photographs with the firefighters who carried out his rescue.

The incident marks an unusual call-out for the fire service during the Christmas period, demonstrating their capability to handle animal rescue operations alongside their primary emergency response duties.
