Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted cash machine theft at Waitrose in Portswood during the early hours of Tuesday morning (19 August).
Officers responded to reports of a theft in progress at approximately 4:15am today. Three suspects wearing balaclavas were reportedly using a van to attempt forcing entry to the ATM outside the Waitrose store in Portswood.
The suspects fled on foot when police arrived at the scene. No cash was taken from the machine.
The vehicle used in the incident had been reported stolen previously. Police believe it was parked somewhere in the area between 10 August and the early hours of this morning.
Authorities are requesting anyone who may have spotted this vehicle before the incident to come forward.

- Significant damage near rear wheel arch including crumpled bodywork and missing black side bumper
Officers continue their investigation, including examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. A police cordon remains at the location whilst forensic evidence is gathered.
