Man charged after stolen vehicle found near Whitchurch

A 44-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after police discovered a stolen vehicle near Whitchurch on 2 August.

Police officers spotted a Citroen Berlingo on the A34 at Tufton around 8pm, which had been taken from the Aylesbury area in Buckinghamshire. A man was detained at the scene.

Following investigations, Edward Parker, 44, from Pippin Drive, Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, was charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle x 2
  • Theft from motor vehicle x 6
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving whilst disqualified x 2
  • Drink driving
  • Using motor vehicle without insurance x 2

The additional charges stem from reports of items being stolen from cars in Sutton Scotney, Wickham, Sparsholt and Petersfield between 24 May and 24 June. The stolen items included handbags, driving licences, car keys, number plates, and electronic devices such as an iPhone, laptop and iPad.

Police also received reports of a VW Golf being taken from Rowlands Castle on 26 May.

Parker appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday (4 August) where he admitted guilt to all charges. He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 5 September.
