SGN will close the eastbound carriageway of St Mary’s Road from Wednesday 30 July for five weeks whilst essential gas main replacement work takes place between Fratton Road and Fourth Street junctions.
The gas network operator has announced the temporary directional closure will remain in place until Monday 1 September as contractors FPF Utilities Limited replace ageing metal pipes with new plastic infrastructure.
The closure will affect eastbound traffic travelling from Fratton Road towards Milton Road, with signed diversions in operation. Westbound traffic heading from Milton Road towards Fratton Road will remain unaffected.
Local residents and businesses will maintain vehicle access to their properties through the westbound lane only, with SGN’s site team providing updates on access arrangements. Pedestrian routes will continue as normal throughout the works.
Bus Service 21 will face eastbound disruption, and passengers are advised to contact their service provider for information on diversion routes and temporary stop changes. Bin collection schedules will remain unchanged unless residents receive notification from their service provider.
The temporary suspension of the voi e-scooter rack at this location will be in place during the project period.
SGN has scheduled the works during the school holidays to minimise traffic disruption when local roads typically experience lighter usage.
