Taylor Wimpey is proposing to build 120 new homes in Lovedean, with construction access planned through Blackthorn Avenue, sparking fierce opposition from Norton Chase residents.
The major housebuilder has announced plans for the development on land at Lovedean Lane, with 40% designated as affordable housing. However, the proposed use of Blackthorn Avenue as the main access route for construction vehicles has caused significant concern amongst existing residents.
Norton Chase residents fear the construction access will create a “major nuisance” lasting 4-5 years, with health and safety issues including noise pollution, exhaust fumes, safety risks for adults and children, road restrictions, and increased wear and tear on the avenue and underlying services – costs which residents would bear.
The newly-completed Norton Chase estate, developed by Bargate Homes approximately two months ago, has sold all but one property2. Crucially, Bargate Homes owns Blackthorn Avenue and would need to grant permission for Taylor Wimpey to use it for construction access.
Multiple residents have submitted complaints to Bargate Homes requesting information about whether permission has been granted or is being considered for the avenue’s use, but have received no response to date.
Taylor Wimpey’s consultation document reveals the site benefits from a semi-rural setting whilst maintaining good access to local services, amenities, and transport connections. The development would include new areas of public open space, enhanced natural habitats, and substantial new planting.
A public consultation meeting is scheduled for 17th July 2025 from 2:30pm to 8pm at The Jubilee Hall, Crouch Lane, Waterlooville. Norton Chase residents plan to attend in large numbers after 5:30pm to voice their opposition to the proposals.
Those unable to attend can contact Taylor Wimpey on 0800 689 5209 or email info@TWlovedean.co.uk for further information about the development proposals.
