Major Petersfield Flat Fire Damages Multiple Properties

A major fire broke out in a flat on Lavant Street, Petersfield on Thursday evening, requiring eight fire engines and causing significant damage to multiple properties, though no injuries were reported.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at 6:20pm on Thursday, 3rd July, with the fire service deploying eight fire engines alongside specialist vehicles at the incident’s peak. Several properties sustained damage from the fire, however, authorities have confirmed no casualties occurred. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Following a partial building collapse, Urban Search and Rescue specialists are currently working to secure the structure, enabling fire and police investigators safe access to determine what caused the fire.

Fire crews remain at the scene, though their presence has been reduced overnight. One fire engine and an aerial ladder platform continue operations to dampen down areas and target remaining hotspots.

Thursday Evening – 10:40pm
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control, though it caused substantial roof damage to four properties. The fire service reduced their on-site presence but maintained three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform throughout the night for continued dampening operations and hotspot management.

Thursday Evening – 8:30pm
Fire crews from twelve stations across the region – including Alton, Cosham, Eastleigh, Emsworth, Greyshott, Havant, Horndean, Liphook, Petersfield, Portchester, St Mary’s and Southsea – worked to combat the fire using breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reel jets.

The fire’s origin remains unknown. No injuries have been reported, and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. Residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep doors and windows shut due to smoke and to avoid the vicinity to allow emergency vehicle access.
