Scorching temperatures and abundant sunshine will dominate Portsmouth and Hampshire until Wednesday when scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast to arrive, bringing much-needed relief from the heat.
Portsmouth residents can expect another day of blazing sunshine today with temperatures reaching 26°C and barely a cloud in sight. The hot conditions will persist through tonight with clear skies and warm temperatures of around 18°C.
Tuesday will see the mercury climb even higher, with Portsmouth experiencing temperatures of 29°C alongside continued sunny spells. However, a north-easterly breeze may bring some low cloud to coastal areas later in the day.
The scorching weather pattern will break on Wednesday morning when scattered heavy showers are expected to sweep across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. These downpours could be thundery and will linger for a time before conditions turn drier during the afternoon with occasional sunny breaks.
Temperatures will drop significantly on Wednesday, with Portsmouth seeing a maximum of just 25°C – a notable cooling from the previous days’ intense heat.
The outlook for Thursday and Friday shows a return to dry conditions with plenty of sunshine, particularly on Thursday morning. Some patches of cloud will develop during Thursday afternoon, whilst Friday will feature a mix of patchy cloud and sunny spells.
Weekend conditions suggest temperatures will settle into the low twenties, with Saturday reaching 23°C and Sunday 24°C for Portsmouth.
The current hot spell has brought very high UV levels and very high pollen counts, with pollution levels remaining low across the region.
Tonight’s forecast shows continued clear skies with light winds and minimum temperatures around 18°C. Sunrise tomorrow will be at 04:55 with sunset at 21:21.
