Portsmouth Football Club has announced the death of Mike Dyer, aged 73, following a courageous fight against illness. The former director was instrumental in the club’s recovery from administration in 2013.
Mr Dyer, who was born in Gosport, enjoyed a successful career as a corporate solicitor before becoming chairman of Verisona, a firm based in Lakeside.
A devoted Portsmouth supporter throughout his life, Mr Dyer played a crucial role in guiding the club out of administration in 2013 and assisted in securing the takeover by the Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust and presidents.
He served as a vital board member between 2013 and 2017, acting as a protector of the football club during a period when stability was desperately required.
After Portsmouth FC was sold to The Tornante Company following the team’s promotion to League One in 2017, Mr Dyer was made a club president.
Mr Dyer will be deeply missed in his various capacities as director, president, ambassador and supporter.
Portsmouth Football Club extends its condolences to Mr Dyer’s family and friends during this difficult period.
