Mousinho Reveals Pompey’s Hectic Summer Schedule

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho insists the club remains busy with behind-the-scenes preparation for the 2025/26 season, despite the current summer break from Championship action.

Anticipation for the new campaign will intensify when Championship fixtures are unveiled next Thursday.

However, we find ourselves in that familiar period where little occurs to satisfy English football supporters’ appetites.

Yet this doesn’t mean everyone at Pompey is presently lounging on deck chairs whilst enjoying tropical drinks.

Mousinho emphasises that significant activity continues behind closed doors as preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 season progresses.

The Blues manager explained: “We’re following a comparable timetable to last season, featuring a seven-week interval before resuming pre-season activities.

“The squad will return to the training facility shortly, and we’ve already secured confirmation for most of our pre-season friendlies.

“There’s certainly a distinct atmosphere at present since the weekly pressure of match preparation has lifted.”

He continued: “However, it’s been an exceptionally active period due to extensive forward planning and player recruitment responsibilities.

“Regarding recruitment, it won’t match the intensity of the previous two summers, though it’s not merely one or two signings either – somewhere between those extremes.

“Considerable time remains before the transfer window concludes, and sometimes maintaining flexibility proves beneficial.

“Whilst the weekly match preparation pressure has eased, creating a different environment, substantial activity continues throughout the club – at both Fratton Park and our training facilities.

“Pitch maintenance work commenced some time ago, and we’re pursuing several additional improvements as well.”
