Demolition of Gosport’s former bus depot has been postponed following the discovery of nesting birds on site. The building was scheduled for immediate demolition as part of area regeneration plans.
Preliminary work had commenced at the former Gosport Bus Station site in preparation for its demolition. The location is earmarked to become part of broader area regeneration efforts, which include establishing a new People’s Park.
The building’s demolition was set to begin immediately, however the presence of nesting birds has pushed back the schedule.
A representative from Gosport Borough Council stated: “Work is progressing to transform the former bus station into a new People’s Park.
“Regrettably, the building’s demolition has been postponed slightly owing to the bird nesting season and statutory obligations to safeguard wildlife.
“We anticipate that demolition activities will resume in the coming weeks, with plans to landscape the area and launch it as a public park during early autumn.”
A replacement bus station opened at a nearby location last year.
