Luxury cruise vessel Seabourn Sojourn made its inaugural visit to Portsmouth International Port on Friday, bringing passengers from Australia and America to explore the historic city.
The “six-star exclusive” ship, operated by Seabourn Cruise Line, arrived at Portsmouth International Port on May 30, marking a significant milestone for the port. Distinguished officials participated in the customary plaque presentation ceremony aboard the vessel to commemorate its first Portsmouth call.
Portsmouth’s Lord Mayor Gerald Vernon-Jackson and Lady Mayoress Dianna Carruthers conducted the ceremonial honours with ship’s Captain Stig Betten and Hotel Director Roland Nema.
“It was fantastic to attend the port on Friday morning and greet passengers from Seabourn Sojourn as they disembarked in Portsmouth for the first time,” commented the Lord Mayor. “This six-star exclusive vessel transported travellers from destinations including Australia and America, who enjoyed exploring our city.
“Our excellent cruise ambassadors assisted guests dockside with planning their visits. Many passengers I met expressed enthusiasm about visiting Gunwharf, Charles Dickens’ birthplace, and the D-Day Story to discover Portsmouth’s heritage. Since Portsmouth International Port belongs to the city council, the port’s prosperity benefits the entire city. All revenue returns directly to support essential resident services.”
