Severe delays of 27 minutes are affecting the M27 this morning after essential bridge maintenance work between junction 12 and the Hilsea Interchange overran its scheduled completion time.
Lane restrictions remained in place following weekend maintenance work that was meant to conclude at 6am today. National Highways had implemented closures on both carriageways to carry out crucial repairs on two major bridges.
The planned closures, running from 8pm Thursday 12 June until 6am this morning, were intended to affect lane one in both directions across both bridge structures.
National Highways confirmed via social media that the maintenance had exceeded its planned timeframe: “The roadworks on the #M27 at J12 (#M275) #Portsmouth have overrun their scheduled finish time.
“One lane will remain closed in both directions. There are minimal delays at the moment however congestion may build during rush hour traffic. Please allow extra time for your journey.”
The AA reported significant disruption on the eastbound carriageway, stating: “Severe delays of 27 minutes on M27 Eastbound between J9 A27 Segensworth Link Road (Segensworth / Fareham) and M275.”
The maintenance programme will continue with lane one closures occurring several days weekly throughout June, before switching to lane three restrictions in both directions during July and early August.
The ongoing work forms part of National Highways’ essential infrastructure maintenance between the M27’s junction 12 and the Hilsea Interchange, with closures scheduled to remain until August.
