A32 Wickham Road lane closures begin Monday for M27 works

Lane closures on A32 Wickham Road start Monday as part of M27 Junction 10 improvement works, with 24-hour restrictions lasting 26 days affecting a 200-metre section.

The work will involve alternating closures of northbound and southbound lanes, enabling traffic to flow in one direction under temporary traffic light control. Journeys are expected to take longer during this period, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

The work is required to connect new road layouts to the existing network and deliver drainage improvements, utility cable diversions, earthworks, resurfacing, and installation of a new traffic island.

The improvements are designed to support development of Welborne Garden Village, a new community of up to 6,000 homes just outside Fareham in Hampshire, and provide improved access to the M27.

The M27 Junction 10 improvement scheme is being delivered by Hampshire County Council, working closely with National Highways. VolkerFitzpatrick has been appointed as the main contractor. The £100m+ scheme is being funded by the Buckland Group, developer of Welborne Garden Village, and Homes England.

Traffic management will operate from 7am on Monday 11th August to 7pm on Friday 5th September 2025, including the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Temporary two-way traffic lights will manage vehicle flow through alternating closures of northbound and southbound lanes. During each phase, only one lane will remain open, allowing traffic to pass in one direction at a time.

The temporary two-way traffic lights will operate manually between 7am and 7pm, and automatically between 7pm and 7am.

Road users are advised that whilst operatives will not be on site during weekends and the Bank Holiday, traffic management measures will remain in place. This is a safety requirement due to ongoing, unfinished works and ensures continued protection of all road users.

The two-year construction scheme is due to open to traffic in winter 2026.
