Toby Steward Completes St Johnstone Loan Switch

Portsmouth goalkeeper Toby Steward has completed a season-long loan move to Scottish Championship club St Johnstone. The 20-year-old academy graduate will gain valuable first-team experience at a competitive level during the upcoming season with the ambitious Scottish side.

The young shot-stopper has gained experience across various levels, having previously featured for Bognor, Salisbury, Gosport, Tonbridge and Wealdstone during his development. The Pompey academy product caught attention with his performances during a spell at Crawley in League One towards the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho expressed his satisfaction with the arrangement, stating: “This represents another crucial progression in Toby’s career and provides him with the chance to compete in first-team football at a good standard.

“He possesses tremendous potential and we’ve been pleased with his advancement over recent years, so we’re eager to witness what he can accomplish during the coming season.”

St Johnstone are determined to secure an immediate return to the Premiership after suffering relegation last season. The Perth outfit will view Steward’s arrival as they prepare for their promotion campaign.

The goalkeeper may feature for his new club when they welcome Falkirk for a friendly match this evening. St Johnstone’s competitive fixtures commence on Saturday with a League Cup group stage encounter away to East Kilbride.
