Madiodio Dia: Defender ready to make impact

Portsmouth FC’s new signing Madiodio Dia is eager to help the Blues secure Championship survival after completing his deadline day move from Norwegian club Haugesund two weeks ago.

The 22-year-old Senegalese centre-back completed his medical remotely whilst still abroad, finalising all documentation before the transfer window closed during a hectic final day at Fratton Park.

Dia joined alongside Jacob Brown and Gustavo Caballero in a busy period that saw three arrivals and two departures, keeping supporters glued to their devices for updates.

Since arriving on Portsea Island, the defender has integrated with his new teammates and featured on the substitutes’ bench during Saturday’s narrow loss to Sheffield United.

Now settled on the south coast, Madiodio Dia Portsmouth FC’s newest recruit is determined to make his mark in English football.

“It feels great to be part of Portsmouth Football Club and I’m really happy to be here,” Dia explained.

“This is a good club that can help me to develop my talent and express myself a lot, while the fans and staff can make me enjoy my football.

“I spoke with the manager and he is trusting in me and ready to help me work to achieve good things here.”

The young defender revealed playing in England had long been an ambition, and he’s now focused on repaying the faith shown in him.

“It was one of my dreams to play football in England now I’m here, so I just have to keep working hard and go for it.

“I’m 100 per cent ready now to show the fans just what I can do and I’m very excited to be able to meet them.

“While I’m here I want to develop my own game and also help the team – hopefully we can achieve big things together.”
