Manager Michael O’Neill introduced the 21-year-old versatile player during the final moments of the match at Windsor Park. Devlin had remained on the substitutes’ bench without featuring when Northern Ireland suffered a 2-1 defeat to Denmark several days prior to the Iceland encounter.

Goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid earned his first selection for the Austria national team ahead of two World Cup qualifying fixtures. However, the shot-stopper has yet to make his international debut following Austria’s Group H encounters with Romania and San Marino.

Schmid was named amongst the substitutes for the opening match, which Austria won 2-1, but was omitted from manager Ralf Rangnick’s matchday selection for the subsequent fixture against San Marino, where Austria secured a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
