Casley Departs Pompey Women for Oxford Move

Portsmouth Women have confirmed that defender Riva Casley has completed a permanent transfer to Oxford for an undisclosed fee, returning to her former club after enjoying two highly successful seasons with the south coast side where she made significant impact.

The versatile defender, who initially joined Portsmouth from Oxford in July 2023, leaves having made 55 appearances for the Blues across all competitions. During her time at Fratton Park, Casley netted three goals, including a vital strike in Portsmouth’s maiden Championship victory.

The 2023/24 campaign proved particularly memorable for Casley, as she featured 29 times whilst helping Jay Sadler’s squad secure the National League title in record-breaking fashion. Following that triumph, she committed her future to the club by signing a professional two-year contract in summer 2024, before making 26 appearances during Portsmouth’s inaugural Championship season.

Manager Jay Sadler expressed his disappointment at losing such a key player, commenting: “Riva has been an exceptional performer for us across the past two seasons and has contributed enormously both on and off the field.

“Obviously, we’re saddened to see her depart. She has made a considerable impact on the squad throughout both our title-winning campaign and our first Championship season.

“We completely understand her decision to prioritise her career alongside football. She departs with our sincere best wishes and appreciation for everything she has helped us accomplish.”

Reflecting on her time with Portsmouth, Casley shared: “My spell at Portsmouth has been absolutely incredible.

“I’ve created some amazing memories and formed lifelong friendships, both on and off the field. I’ll always cherish my time wearing blue.

“There are numerous highlights from my period here. Performing at St. James’ Park before more than 22,000 supporters, claiming the league title in spectacular style and achieving the great escape last season.

“The supporters of this club are remarkable. They backed us during the good times and even more so when challenges arose.

“I’ll miss wearing the blue shirt, but you’ve given me an unforgettable experience.”

Portsmouth Football Club extends its gratitude to Riva for her outstanding contribution during her tenure on the south coast and wishes her every success in the future.
