Portsmouth’s Armed Forces Day celebration is taking place today at Southsea Common, featuring free displays, parades, and performances from 10am to 4pm.
The annual tribute to the armed forces is taking place at Portsmouth with an impressive lineup of military displays and entertainment across Southsea Common. Entry remains completely free with no advance booking required, allowing families to simply arrive and participate in today’s festivities.
Event Highlights
The celebration features spectacular aerial displays, with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Team showcasing their iconic Spitfire alongside potential appearances from Hurricane, Dakota and Lancaster aircraft. The Royal Navy ‘Raiders’ are performing their renowned parachute demonstration, while the Rose and Thistle Pipe Band is leading the main military parade.
A dedicated main arena is hosting dog displays from ICTS, performances by HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band, and field gun competitions. The separate Field Gun Arena features competitive displays and hands-on experiences throughout the day.
Family Entertainment
Children can enjoy the returning climbing wall and various funfair attractions available for purchase. The event includes a BMX tricks display in the dedicated Bike Arena, while the 6 Regiment Army Air Corps Reserves is presenting a static Gazelle helicopter exhibition.
Military organisations, veterans’ groups and charities are operating information stalls and displays across the common, providing insight into armed forces life and services.

Field Gun Arena:
Competitions and demonstrations are running at 10:30, 12:30, 14:15, and 15:30, including schools and cadets field gun competitions alongside RPM displays.
Bandstand Entertainment:
Live performances from Petty Criminals, Soul Suspects, Mojo Dollar, Tesoro, and Sea of Quay Voices.

Travel Information
All activities are centred around the Naval Memorial area of Southsea Common. Ongoing coastal defence works have closed promenade roads between Blue Reef Aquarium and Hovertravel terminal, reducing available seafront parking spaces.
Portsmouth Park and Ride is operating during today’s event, offering direct transport from the M275 junction to Southsea. Alternative transport options include contactless bus services, cycling, walking, or Voi e-scooter and e-bike rentals through their mobile application.
