Portsmouth Council has installed raised tables at two Milton Market junctions to improve pedestrian safety. The Middlesex Road junction is complete, while Suffolk Road works continue progressing well.
The raised tables elevate road sections to pavement level, creating a natural traffic calming measure that enhances safety and comfort for pedestrians and shoppers crossing the street. Work at the Middlesex Road junction has been completed, whilst installation at the Suffolk Road junction continues to make good progress.
The initiative forms part of Portsmouth’s broader strategy to create a safer, more pedestrian-friendly city. By promoting increased walking, the council aims to reduce vehicle traffic, improve air quality, and foster healthier, more active local communities.
Residents with questions or concerns about the project can contact the council’s travel team via email at citytravel@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
