Firefighters rescued a horse named Tyse from a muddy bog in the New Forest after the animal became trapped whilst riding with its owner on an unfamiliar route last Monday.
The incident occurred in Emery Down village when Tyse and his rider were exploring new terrain. What looked like ordinary grassland turned treacherous as they began sinking into the boggy ground.

Emergency services responded at approximately 4pm on Monday, 16th June, with Redbridge fire crews attending the scene. They received additional support from specialist animal rescue teams based in Lyndhurst and Winchester.
Working under veterinary supervision, firefighters employed a barrel technique to extract the 16-hand horse from the marsh. The rescue operation involved a controlled rollover procedure, utilising specialist strops and head harness equipment to safely free the animal.

Hampshire Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) successfully completed the operation and returned to station shortly after 7pm, having safely freed Tyse from his muddy predicament.
