Hampshire Council unveils 100+ transport schemes for 2025-26

Hampshire County Council has announced more than 100 transport schemes across the county for 2025-26, aimed at creating safer, more sustainable travel options for residents.

The comprehensive programme includes cycling infrastructure, pedestrian safety measures, bus service enhancements, and road improvements as part of the council’s Local Transport Plan implementation.

Funding totals several million pounds from various sources including Department for Transport grants, developer Section 106 contributions, and local authority partnerships.

Councillor Nick Adams-King, Leader of Hampshire County Council, said: “Ensuring Hampshire continues to thrive and prosper is our number one priority – to support a vibrant economy while enhancing the natural environment and improving outcomes for local people. That means having the right transport infrastructure in place that works for everyone – whether you’re driving, walking, cycling or using public transport.

“Our goal is a better connected Hampshire, where people can get around more easily and safely. These projects will help us support local businesses, protect our environment and improve quality of life across the county.”

Major initiatives for the year ahead encompass:

  • Enhanced bus priority measures in Basingstoke town centre and Havant
  • Improved pedestrian crossings in Alton and Minley Road, Farnborough
  • Active travel routes connecting Gosport town centre to ferry services and Fareham’s A27 corridor
  • A35 safety improvements through the New Forest
  • Village centre enhancements in Botley and public realm work in Andover

The programme spans all Hampshire districts, with Basingstoke and East Hampshire each receiving 12 projects, whilst Winchester leads with 17 separate schemes. The council expects to add further projects throughout the year as additional funding opportunities arise.

Projects must align with the council’s statutory transport planning duties and contribute to the county’s carbon reduction targets set out in the Local Transport Plan.
