Fire crews were called to a property on Poynings Crescent, Basingstoke, at approximately 11:30pm after reports of a roof fire near the M3 motorway, with multiple fire services responding to tackle the blaze.
Emergency services from Basingstoke initially responded to reports of the incident at around 11:30pm on Poynings Crescent, close to the M3 motorway.
When crews arrived at the scene, they discovered the roof fully ablaze with significant smoke emerging from the property. Additional units from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Tadley, Fleet, Rushmoor, and the Incident Command Unit from headquarters were subsequently deployed.
Emergency personnel worked to disconnect utilities to the detached house after confirming all occupants had been safely evacuated. One person sustained minor burns during the incident.
The blaze has been classified as accidental, with investigators believing it originated from soldering work being carried out in the roof space. The fire caused partial structural collapse of the roof.
An aerial ladder platform was deployed whilst firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used hose reels and water jets to combat the flames. Ventilation equipment was installed to extract smoke from the building.
Following successful extinguishment of the fire, the operation was scaled down with remaining crews conducting dampening down procedures and visiting neighbouring properties to offer community safety advice.
A follow-up inspection is scheduled for later this evening to monitor for any remaining hot spots.
