Portsmouth City Council’s Christmas Light Switch On celebrations have attracted increased business backing, with events scheduled across Southsea, Cosham and Commercial Road from 20-22 November featuring festive entertainment and activities.
HSDC returns as principal sponsor for a third consecutive year, joined by Nation Radio, Motorpoint, Kings Theatre and Theatre Royal in supporting Portsmouth’s seasonal festivities.
The three-day celebration launches the Christmas period with entertainment across the city’s shopping districts, incorporating Christmas Light Switch On Parties, Cosham Carols, Portsmouth Christmas Market and Portsmouth on Ice.
Nation Radio’s Mark Collins will present the Switch On Parties, which feature live performances, illuminations and pantomime celebrities including Shaun Williamson (EastEnders’ Barry), television personality Rusty Lee and Portsmouth FC manager John Mousinho. Community groups, choirs, theatre performers and Father Christmas will also appear.
An HSDC spokesperson commented:
“We’re delighted to sponsor Christmas once again in Portsmouth. This event brings our community together to celebrate the festive spirit. We’re proud to invest in the magic of the season and create lasting memories for families and friends.”
Councillor Steve Pitt, Council Leader with Economic Development responsibilities, stated:
“Portsmouth is lighting up this festive season with events designed to support local businesses and rediscover our high streets. Thank you to our sponsors for making these celebrations possible. I encourage everyone to join the fun and shop local this Christmas.”
