Eight student entrepreneurs pitched innovative business ideas to industry experts at the University of Portsmouth on Wednesday, showcasing ventures ranging from construction companies to educational board games and gaming studios.
The ‘Pitch to the Experts’ event at the Future Technology Centre brought together entrepreneurial students and graduates with panellists from the University’s Entrepreneur in Residence programme.
Among the ventures presented were an innovative construction firm modernising the building industry, products crafted from upcycled sporting materials, and an educational board game addressing online safety and knife crime awareness amongst young people.
The Student StartUp team collaborated with the Business Engagement team to create a supportive environment where budding entrepreneurs could gain real-world experience pitching to business leaders and securing valuable feedback on their concepts.
Expert panel provides guidance
Jaimes Harrington, Manager of the Entrepreneurs in Residence programme, commented: “Watching our students present their innovative concepts to accomplished entrepreneurs was truly inspiring. Many panellists were proud university alumni who returned to share their expertise, providing constructive feedback and demonstrating what graduates can achieve.”
The entrepreneurs had opportunities for individual consultations with panel members, who collectively possess extensive business experience and knowledge.
Four panel members were university alumni, contributing their time and expertise to support emerging entrepreneurs within the university community.
