University of Portsmouth forms new partnership with Pakistan colleges

The University of Portsmouth has formed a new partnership with Roots IVY Academic Network in Pakistan, allowing students to access undergraduate and postgraduate programmes locally without travelling to the UK.

The Portsmouth-based university has established an international collaboration with Roots IVY International College and the IVY College of Management Sciences, both part of Pakistan’s Roots IVY Academic Network, to deliver degree programmes previously unavailable to local students.

This partnership enables Pakistani students to pursue various University of Portsmouth undergraduate and postgraduate courses within their home country, eliminating the requirement for UK travel.

The academic offerings encompass numerous disciplines, including progression programmes for Higher National Diploma (HND) students seeking to complete their degrees.

The international collaboration was formalised on 2nd June through signatures from Chris Chang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Student Life, and Neha Mudassir, Chief Executive of IVY Academic Network.

Roots IVY represents a leading private education provider in Pakistan, holding approval from the Higher Education Commission and maintaining operations nationwide according to contemporary international educational standards.

The collaboration expands academic opportunities for Roots IVY students by introducing disciplines not previously accessible, strengthening their qualifications and enhancing career prospects.

Programme graduates will receive University of Portsmouth degrees. These transnational education graduates will demonstrate the university’s hallmark qualities of academic rigour, international outlook, and career preparation whilst completing their studies in Pakistan.

Following a December 2024 visit to Pakistan, Professor Graham Galbraith commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with Roots IVY Group, which shares our commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and meaningful impact. This partnership creates exciting international opportunities for Pakistani students by providing access to programmes currently unavailable to them.

“This collaboration supports our wider commitment to expanding higher education access and extending our distinctive educational experience to students who might not otherwise pursue a University of Portsmouth qualification in the UK. It also reflects a key priority in our new strategic framework to improve global accessibility.”

Chris Chang stated: “International partnerships remain fundamental to Portsmouth’s mission and strategy. This collaboration will provide international students with exceptional educational opportunities, establishing foundations for future success.”

Neha Mudassir, CEO of Roots Ivy Academic Network, welcomed the partnership: “Roots IVY, conceived by my mother Dr Khadija Mushtaq, has pioneered Transnational Education delivery in Pakistan. This University of Portsmouth partnership continues our mission to deliver inclusive, world-class education accessible domestically.

“This collaboration demonstrates our dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion—fundamental values underpinning all Roots IVY activities. Through globally recognised degree pathways via the University of Portsmouth, we enable students to access transformative education whilst remaining in Pakistan.

“All our partnerships maintain exclusivity, and the University of Portsmouth collaboration follows this principle. Given its football club connections, this partnership establishes sports as a distinctive strength for Roots IVY.”

The new programmes, launching in September 2025, mark a significant achievement in the University of Portsmouth’s strategy to establish meaningful international partnerships delivering concrete student benefits whilst expanding as a diverse global academic community.
