Two men sentenced for knife and bottle assault in Gosport

Two men have received four-and-a-half-year prison sentences after attacking a victim with a knife and bottle in Gosport last September.

Marc Bache, aged 23, from Brockhurst Road in Gosport, faced charges of wounding with intent and possessing a bladed weapon in public.

Andrew Lewis, 34, from South Street in Gosport, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and carrying an offensive weapon.

Hampshire Police received reports at 5:20pm on 16th September 2024 that a 21-year-old man had been confronted by two individuals in an alleyway close to Thornbrake Road.

One attacker pressed a knife against the victim’s throat before stabbing him in the stomach, whilst the second smashed a bottle over the victim’s head.

Before fleeing, the attackers called out to an onlooker: “It’s nothing personal love”.

The injured man sought safety at a friend’s home and received hospital treatment, making a complete recovery afterwards.

Both Bache and Lewis received their sentences at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday, 30th May 2025.

Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy, District Commander for Gosport, commented: “Our stance towards criminals engaging in serious violence and other offences in Gosport remains clear – ‘not in our town’.

“We collaborate extensively with partner organisations and local residents to tackle these matters, and I’m satisfied this court outcome demonstrates our dedication to refusing tolerance of knife crime or serious violence in Gosport.

“I trust the substantial sentences both defendants must now serve will assist the victim in moving forward, knowing both perpetrators are imprisoned.

“Severe consequences affect all parties involved in such crimes, whether as victims or those choosing to carry knives.

“We maintain ongoing partnerships to supervise individuals at risk of reoffending, identifying those connected to knife-related incidents and offering engagement and diversion opportunities, whilst pursuing prosecution and enforcement where necessary.”
