Teen stabbing suspects’ bail extended until September

Three teenagers arrested over the stabbing of a schoolboy near Portsmouth’s Springfield School have had their bail extended until September 10, police have confirmed.

A 15-year-old pupil was knifed in the elbow and back on Lower Drayton Lane at 3.46pm on Monday, March 10, just as Springfield School had finished for the day. The attack occurred in broad daylight as students were heading home, leaving blood on the pavement.

The victim, believed to be a Springfield School student, was treated at hospital for two small stab wounds before being discharged. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Following the incident, three arrests were made in subsequent days. Two 14-year-old boys were detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, whilst a 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The suspects were initially granted bail earlier this week, but Hampshire Police have now confirmed to local media that this has been extended until September 10 as investigations continue.

District Commander Superintendent Paul Markham said officers would remain visible in the area during ongoing enquiries. “We’re also engaging with Springfield School, which is close to where the assault took place, to provide reassurance to the school community,” he stated.

He emphasised that tackling serious violence, including knife crime, and working in partnership to prevent offending remained a priority in Portsmouth.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number 44250106313. Reports can also be made anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
