Teen hospitalised after roof fall at derelict Gosport building

A teenager has been hospitalised after falling through the roof of a derelict building in Gosport on Wednesday evening. The 15-year-old suffered broken bones and bruising but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Emergency services were called to Quay Lane at approximately 7:40pm on Wednesday, 11 June, where the boy required medical attention following his fall. He was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police confirmed were neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Officers assisted our colleagues from the ambulance service and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment for broken bones and bruising. His injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.”

The incident was one of three similar reports that evening involving young people climbing onto abandoned buildings across the area. Additional incidents occurred in Stubbington and Elson, prompting local police to issue a safety warning.

Gosport police posted on Facebook: “Three times this evening officers from Gosport and Fareham have been sent to jobs where teenagers have been reported as being on top of buildings.

“Whilst these places may have a certain appeal they are dangerous. One was in Stubbington, another in Town and the third in Elson. A short but sweet message this time but worthy none the less. Please share and talk to your children.”
