Police appeal over shoplifting in Ryde and Isle of Wight

Police are appealing for witnesses following a series of shoplifting incidents in Ryde, Newport and East Cowes, with alcohol and meat products worth hundreds of pounds stolen from three supermarkets across the Isle of Wight.

A man reportedly entered Tesco Extra on Brading Road in Ryde on Thursday 4th December between 12:05pm and 12:15pm, leaving with £145.50 worth of alcohol without payment.

The shoplifting in Ryde follows two similar incidents at other Isle of Wight locations. On Thursday 27th November, a man allegedly entered Sainsbury’s on Foxes Road in Newport and left with unpaid alcohol and meat products. Two days later, on Saturday 29th November, Waitrose on Well Road in East Cowes reported a similar theft involving alcohol and meat items of comparable value.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have released an image of a man they believe could assist with their investigation into these connected incidents.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 50 and 70 years old, with a stocky build and grey or white hair.

Officers are urging anyone who recognises the individual or witnessed suspicious activity in the areas at the relevant times to contact police by calling 101 and quoting reference number 44250547166.

Authorities are particularly interested in CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell camera footage that may aid their enquiries.

Information can also be submitted online through the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary website or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
