Shoplifter jailed eight months for Farnborough thefts

A man has been sentenced to eight months in prison after stealing food and alcohol valued at over £1,800 from shops across Farnborough.

Joshua Bone, aged 42 and of no fixed address, carried out thefts at Tesco Express outlets on Cove Road and Chapel Lane, plus the BP petrol station on Prospect Road. The offences occurred between October 2024 and May 2025.

Bone faced charges for 18 separate counts of shop theft, to which he entered guilty pleas. Basingstoke Magistrates Court imposed the eight-month custodial sentence on Wednesday, 13 August.

Police Sergeant Lee Bishop from Farnborough Neighbourhood Policing Team commented: “Joshua Bone’s actions have significantly affected local businesses, retail staff and the broader community.

“We want to send a clear message that shoplifting and such conduct will not be accepted in Farnborough.

“Every shoplifting report receives serious attention from us, and I trust this outcome provides reassurance to residents that we will pursue every avenue to bring offenders to justice.”

Authorities encourage shop owners and employees to continue reporting theft incidents. This information enables police to take appropriate action, including suspect arrests, charges and securing court convictions.

Reports can be made by telephoning 101 or through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s online reporting system. For crimes in progress, dial 999.
