Ringwood Man Jailed for Tesco Assault and Theft

A Ringwood man has been sentenced to ten weeks in prison after pleading guilty to assault and shoplifting charges following an incident at a local Tesco Express store.

Quincy Rufus Digby Hopkins, aged 27, of Queens Way, received his sentence when he appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (25 June).

The charges relate to an incident at Tesco Express on Butlers Lane, which occurred shortly before 11pm on Sunday (22 June), where Hopkins stole items and assaulted a member of staff.

In addition to his prison sentence, Hopkins has been ordered to pay £125 in compensation to the victim.

Police are encouraging shop owners and staff members to continue reporting any incidents they experience.

Reports can be made by calling 101 or through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website’s online reporting system.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.

Police emphasise that public information enables them to take effective action, including making arrests, bringing charges against suspects, and securing convictions in court, as demonstrated in this case.
