A Reading man has been sentenced to four years in prison following burglaries at properties in Basingstoke and Overton. John Shrubshall, aged 47, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including burglary and theft at Winchester Crown Court.
Shrubshall, of Moriston Close, Reading, broke into a property on Old Kempshott Lane on 2nd June, stealing a bag containing fishing equipment. Police arrested him at the scene, where he was found carrying screwdrivers, gloves, a snood and a torch, all of which were confiscated.
Winchester Crown Court heard that Shrubshall had also broken into a home on Waltham Road in Overton on 11th March, stealing jewellery and cash. CCTV footage later showed him driving an Audi that had been taken from Basingstoke railway station between 8th and 9th March.
The defendant faced charges including:
- Burglary dwelling with intent to steal
- Burglary dwelling and theft without violence
- Going equipped for theft
- Driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent
Shrubshall admitted guilt to all charges and received his four-year prison sentence at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 4th July.
PC Iva Yotova from the Northern Area Crime Team commented: “Burglary is among the most invasive crimes. It can have devastating, lasting effects on victims, and nobody should feel unsafe in their own home.
“I’m pleased that Shrubshall will now be imprisoned for a considerable length of time.
“We hope this outcome demonstrates our commitment to securing justice against those who seek to harm our local communities.
“This sentence should serve as a clear warning to potential offenders. We will track you down, bring you before the courts, and you will face justice and the consequences of your actions.”
