A 44-year-old Portsmouth man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment following convictions for rape, intentional strangulation, assault and threatening behaviour with an offensive weapon after a four-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Jacek Piotr Pupiec, from Newcombe Road in Portsmouth, received his sentence at the same court on Friday 8th August and was also required to register as a sex offender for life.
The charges against Pupiec stemmed from an investigation into the assault and rape of a woman in her thirties, who was known to him, at a property on Eastney Road in May 2023.
Following sentencing, DC Ellie Light from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s specialist Operation Amberstone team commented: “I am delighted to see Pupiec imprisoned for a substantial period for his appalling offences.
“I trust that this sentence, along with the indefinite restraining order imposed on Pupiec, will provide the victim with some measure of closure and a feeling of justice following her ordeal.
“I want to praise the victim for her courage and express gratitude for her cooperation throughout both the investigation and court proceedings.
