A 24-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident on Victoria Road North in Southsea early Sunday morning. The 42-year-old victim remains hospitalised in stable condition.
The victim was attacked at a property on Victoria Road North during the early hours of Sunday, 29th June, sustaining a stab wound during the assault. Medical staff have confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening, and he continues to receive treatment.
The suspect remains in police custody whilst investigations continue.
Chief Inspector Sarah Nicholson stated: “Whilst we are in the preliminary stages of our enquiry, we believe there is no broader threat to the public.
“We recognise that incidents of this type can cause significant concern within the community, and we wish to provide reassurance that we will be undertaking a comprehensive investigation.
“Officers will be present in the vicinity today conducting enquiries. Anyone with concerns may approach these officers directly.”

Police maintain a presence at the Victoria Road North location this morning. A section of pavement near the zebra crossing at the upper end of the road, close to the Montgomerie Road junction, remains sealed off, though the carriageway has reopened to traffic following temporary closures overnight.
Officers continue their scene examination at the nearby property where the assault occurred.
