A Portsmouth man has been arrested following a rolling pin assault in Worthing, with the 47-year-old suspect apprehended after attempting to hide behind stairs to avoid police capture.
The incident occurred on Montague Street at approximately 11.30pm on Sunday, 1 June, when Sussex Police received reports of a man being assaulted with a rolling pin. The 47-year-old victim received medical assessment from ambulance services whilst officers began searching for a suspect who had fled the scene on foot.
Police, assisted by police dog Raven, successfully located the suspect hiding behind stairs that led to a basement property. The Portsmouth resident was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a Class B drug, and burglary relating to a separate incident.

Sussex Police launched an immediate search operation following the attack, with officers tracking the suspect’s movements from the scene. The victim was treated at the location by paramedics following the unusual weapon assault.
