A 60-year-old man sustained serious head injuries following an assault in Denmead on Sunday evening, with a 42-year-old Portsmouth man arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
The attack took place at approximately 5.30pm on Bere Road on June 8, where the victim was reportedly struck and sustained significant head trauma. Officers subsequently detained a 42-year-old suspect in connection with the incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the details of the incident in a statement.
Drug haul, weapons and £15k seized
A force spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports of an altercation on Bere Road shortly after 5.30pm on June 8.
“The victim, a man in his 60s, was struck during the incident and sustained serious head trauma. He received hospital treatment and has since been released.
“A 42-year-old Portsmouth resident has been detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody.”
