Police seek man after pensioner robbed in Basingstoke street

Police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to following a theft incident in Basingstoke where a pensioner in his 70s had £200 stolen after withdrawing cash.

Can you identify this individual? Officers investigating the theft in Basingstoke are appealing for the public’s help to trace him.

Police received reports that an elderly man in his 70s withdrew £200 from a cash machine on London Street at approximately 11am on 4 June.

The victim was subsequently followed into the Premier store on London Street, where the cash was allegedly taken directly from his hand.

Following the initial report, officers have conducted extensive enquiries and are now able to release photographs of a man they believe could assist with their investigation.

Police believe the individual shown in the images – who was wearing a distinctive hooded top – may have vital information regarding the incident and are urging him, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward.

Witnesses who saw the incident, noticed any suspicious activity in the vicinity at the time, or possess CCTV or mobile phone footage that might help the investigation are also asked to contact police.
