Man admits Portsmouth burglary and attempted break-ins

A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary charges after breaking into a Portsmouth home and stealing electronic devices.

Omar Osman admitted the offences at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (Saturday 26 July) following his arrest earlier this week.

During the night of Thursday 24 July into Friday 25 July, Osman had attempted to gain entry to properties on Larkhill Road by testing door handles, though he was unsuccessful in accessing any of these homes.

However, the same evening, he managed to enter a residence on Honeywood Close through an unlocked front door. Once inside, he stole an Apple Mac laptop and a set of AirPods before leaving the property.

Area Crime and District Police Teams launched an investigation, examining CCTV footage and doorbell camera recordings from the neighbourhood. This evidence enabled officers to swiftly identify Osman as the suspect.

Police arrested him at a property on Milton Road, where they discovered him in possession of the stolen electronic items.

Osman, who has no fixed address, was subsequently charged with burglary and attempted burglary offences.

He was held in custody ahead of his court appearance and has now been further remanded to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court for sentencing on 22 August.
