John Wagstaff pleads guilty to shoplifting in Basingstoke

A 44-year-old man from Oakley has admitted stealing goods worth over £140 from three separate shops in Basingstoke. John Wagstaff pleaded guilty to four shoplifting offences at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Wagstaff, of Sunnymead, Oakley, targeted multiple retail locations between 28 October and 6 December, stealing meat and confectionery products. The thefts occurred at three separate premises: a Tesco store on Carpenters Down and two One Stop convenience shops located in Guinea Court and on Shakespeare Road.

John Wagstaff pleaded guilty to shoplifting in Basingstoke when he appeared before magistrates yesterday (17 December). He faced four counts of theft from a shop, to which he entered guilty pleas.

The court granted Wagstaff bail with conditions whilst awaiting sentencing. He is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court again on 18 February for sentencing.

The case highlights ongoing retail crime concerns in the Basingstoke area, with local shops continuing to experience theft-related losses.
