Fire crews from seven stations tackled a large blaze that destroyed approximately six hectares of standing crops in a field off Main Road, Hursley, on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters from Eastleigh, Redbridge, St Mary’s, Fareham, Alresford, Hightown, and Beaulieu responded to the incident shortly before 2:00pm.
The crews swiftly brought the fire under control using beaters and multiple hose reel jets. After surrounding and extinguishing the flames, the operation was scaled down, with remaining firefighters damping down hot spots.
With soaring temperatures heightening wildfire risks, the public is being reminded to remain vigilant and follow essential safety guidance whilst in the countryside:
No barbecues – Pack a picnic instead.
Dispose of cigarettes properly – Never discard them on the ground.
Take litter home – Glass and other rubbish can start fires.
No campfires – Fires are not permitted in open countryside.
